creating green coatings from biomass residues

Worlée is an international family business that has existed for more than 165 years, during which it has always provided its customers from various industries with high-quality and high-performance resources. As a renowned supplier of resources, Worlée has kept up with the many differing demands throughout the years. In recent years, this has meant making sure that the production is sustainable and keeping in mind economic feasibility, ecological safety concerns and social factors. Due to the integrated management system of Worlée, the high quality and sustainability of their products is ensured.

Reason for and importance of participation

For many years, Worlée has formed the link between raw materials on one side of the value chain and industrial production processes on the other side of the value chain. In this project, and as part of its role as a supplier in chemical resources for the production of coatings, Worlée sees the opportunity and applicability of bio-aromatics in the production of resins. As Worlée is looking to add to increased sustainability in the industry, the use of biobased aromatics as an alternative to fossil-based aromatics is highly desirable. In the BioAromatics4Coatings project, Worlée has already made its initial steps to creating a resin based on the bio-aromatic bio-MPA. As such, the next step for them is the opportunity of large-scale production of biobased resins, which is why they joined the consortium.

Expertise and additions

The products Worlée manufactures are of very high quality and safety standards and are set to meet the specific needs of their customers. Their team provides both technical application support, as well as that it develops innovative products to increase the sustainable value of their customer’s products. At its northern German production sites in Lauenburg and Lübeck, Worlée manufactures modern and environmentally friendly binders and additives as raw materials for the coatings industry. The range of chemical raw materials includes aqueous and solvent-based acrylic and alkyd resins, aqueous alkyd emulsions, polyesters, epoxy esters as well as numerous additives which are used in various application areas. These include paints, architectural coatings, industrial coatings, wood coatings, printing inks, construction chemicals, adhesives, powder coatings and special applications. The wide range of own products is also complemented by products from renowned international manufacturers.
